The first Polish Gliding Championship in 18-meters class gliders took place in Piła on August 15–31, 2008. Unfortunately, the weather did not spoil the competitors, therefore, almost all events were organzied in extremelly difficult weather conditions. Only on the very last day the competitors could enjoy really gliding weather. The tournament gathered leading Polish glider pilots including the present World Vice- Champion, Janusz Centka. Taking into consideration such select company, Dr Jerzy Kolasiński performed an excellent job since he was ranked second and became Polish Gliding Vice-Champion. 18-meters class gliders are currently the fastest developing glider class not only in Poland but also worldwide. So, the schedule for the following year should be planned now since it will be full of international tournaments in this class.
